Athelas in English

Magazine of Imladris - the Danish Tolkien Society

Health in every issue!

"When I got the first issue of Athelas in the mail (...) it mademe think back on my first experience as a member of Arthedain. I recallhow at the time I was waiting for the next issue of Angerthas whichwas always late or anyway so it seemed  and how I firstswallowed it in a hurry, then more carefully read it all over again; howthis magazine was my connection to a world of like-minded Tolkien enthusiasts.Since then more connections and more Tolkien magazines have been made. Butnone of them have reminded me so much of Angerthas in its youth in the sameway as Athelas does. Although printing quality, layout etc. are much betterthan what Angerthas could show off ten years ago (perhaps even better thanwhat we can show off now for that sake), there are many similarities. Thereforethis was the first time in a long time a Tolkien magazine held me awakemuch longer through the night than I had first expected. What mostly marksthis magazine is the overwhelming and spontanous energy which lies behind. It is clear that the Danish Tolkien Society is run by a genuine and strongcommitment and that those behind it (...) have made a great effort and analmost touching commitment."

"This is the fresh herb from Beowulf & Co and "Grendel"which I fell in love with at once; not only because of the ethereal Sindawoman on the cover of issue 6 (drawn by Jesper Ejsing), but quite simplybecause of it all: layout, perfect illustrations, aura, printing, letters, the thickness of the magazine (something like 50 pages), yes the very factthat they use unibind... Yes, I'm in love (...) Artwork: plenty, Athelasis full of it (...) With all respect for our own illustrators, many beinggood friends, but this is like an escalating staircase."

- Marc van Blijswijk in Lembas, magazine of the Dutch Tolkien Society.
