Dear fellow-enthusiasts,

Under the motto: better late than never, Athelas 2 is now finally going to print. With 56 members the Danish Tolkien Society has now passed the magic number 33 and look forward to the next: 111. Since the last issue of Athelas we have had an overwhelming Tolkien enthusiasm in Denmark. With the assistance of our society the Danish television broadcast a 1992 portrait of J.R.R. Tolkien on 14 March. The programme was made by Landseer Productions and those taking part included such famous Tolkien folks as John, Michael, Christopher and Priscilla Tolkien, Rayner Unwin, Tom Shippey, Judi Dench, Robert Murray, Verlyn Flieger, Dick Williamson and H.M. Queen Margrethe II of Denmark - not to forget JRRT himself! You certainly have something to look forward to! We have also had a lot of press attention culminating on 16 April where your humble servant was interviewed on radio. Also, my studying tour to Barcelona led to a short visit to the Spanish Tolkien Society! I would like to thank Pablo J. Ginés Rodríguez for his warm welcome and hope for a good co-operation with enthusiasts all over the world. Our meeting on 15 May at Lars Physant's was also a great success, though we didn't have enough time for all our excesses. But to see his marvellous paintings for Tree and Leaf in natura was a great experience! Our next meeting will be in Viborg on 14 and 15 August where we shall also start the planning of next year's great Tolkien event: Nordic Tolkien Festival '94. You will hear more about this later on. Letters will be appreciated whatever language you may chose to use(!) So keep in touch! Best wishes
